Economic and Infrastructure Development
The Marlborough Community Coalition envisions vibrant economic districts along Troost, Paseo, Hickman Mills and Prospect and works for grant funding to update and build out the infrastructure that will bring that to life.
Currently, The MCC is working with the Prospect Business Association to bring more opportunities for small businesses to develop in south Kansas City. The MCC won a $100,000 PIAC grant for a development planning study to be completed on the Prospect-Hickman Mills Corridor from East 75th Street to E 85th Street.
Urban Renewal Area
In 2019, the MCC partnered with the UMKC school of urban planning to conduct a blight study that established an Urban Renewal Area designation along Troost Avenue from East 75th Street to East 89th Street and Marlborough Village from East 79th Street to East 82nd Street.
Parks and Community
The MCC fought to keep the Marlborough Community Center open in 2008. In 2010, the MCC won $500,000 in Public Improvement Advisory Committee (PIAC) funding for Community Center parking lot expansion and for construction of a shelter and off-street parking at Marlborough Park (8221 Brooklyn Ave.)

The Catalyst Plan
The MCC was awarded a $100,000 Sustainable Places Planning study, which resulted in our Catalyst Plan, a comprehensive neighborhood assessment and prioritization of projects.
Through this work, we were able to identify needs and plan for our Coalition Capacity Building, Marlborough Village Commercial Revitalization, Green Infrastructure Project Opportunities in area green spaces, as well as Marlborough School Redevelopment
Livable Streets Corridor
The MCC sponsored a community engagement process which led to a vision for a pedestrian-friendly overlay in the historic Marlborough Village, designed to encourage economic development and guide infrastructure improvements that assure pedestrian safety and enjoyment of the historic area.
$1,750,000 General Obligation Bond funding was won for construction of a major portion of this vision, to create a 2.5 mile “Livable Streets Corridor” (bike/walking path and streetscaping). This connects the green infrastructure sites at 82nd & Troost, Rachel Morado Plaza, and Arleta Park with Ride KC MAX transit stops on both Troost and Prospect.
